| The modern Turkish village of Uzuncaburç is situated approximately 25 km north of Silifke in the pine-forested highlands of the southern Taurus mountains. The name Uzuncaburç, meaning Long Tower, was no doubt inspired by the Hellenistic fortification tower which forms a conspicuous landmark in the area. (quoted from C. Williams, 1974.
