| The Nemestrinidae is a small family (about 300 species) of flies, closely related to the Acroceridae. The larvae of both families are parasitoids; the vast majority of Nemestrinidids are parasitoids of grasshoppers, but larvae of the genus Hirmoneura exclusively parasitize Scarab beetles. Nemestrinidids have a characteristic wing venation and they are also know for various species which have extremely long tongues, being specialists of long-tubed flowers. |
