Family Lycaenidae - subfamily Lycaeninae - tribe Polyommatini

genus Polyommatus

Polyommatus ainsae/dolus
Ainsa, Spain; July 1993.
The species dolus and ainsae are hard to tell apart; you have to count their chromosome number, which is not too easy from a slide. Based on its size, I would guess this is A. ainsae; it also fits nicely with where I took this photograph. Landscape near Ainsa.

Polyommatus albicans
Collado de Foradada (near Ainsa), Spain; July 1993.
The identifications as albicans rather than hispana is largely based on the flight time... Notice that the black antemarginal spots of the female (top) appear to be silver-studded!
