Plebejus argus
|
|
Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, the Netherlands; September 198?
|
A rare aberration in the dunes of Holland. The photograph of the
upperside
confirms the identification (notice the broad black border).
This observation is quite an enigma. Except for this specimen,
I have never seen this species in the same area. The flight
period is also rather unusual, adding to the problematic nature
of the observation.

Many butterflies are found in wet places in the mountains, foraging for
minerals, not water. Often you will find several species closely together
in favorite spots.
