Family Lycaenidae - subfamily Lycaeninae - tribe Polyommatini

genus Plebejus

Plebejus argus
Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, the Netherlands; September 198?
A rare aberration in the dunes of Holland. The photograph of the upperside confirms the identification (notice the broad black border). This observation is quite an enigma. Except for this specimen, I have never seen this species in the same area. The flight period is also rather unusual, adding to the problematic nature of the observation.

Provence, France; June 1990.

Plebejus glandon
Passo de Lucomagno (Tessin), Switzerland; 15 & 18 July 2007.

Plebejus idas
Zermatt, Switzerland; July 1991.
Passo de Lucomagno (Tessin), Switzerland; 18 July 2007.

Plebejus loewii
Male Female
Pinara, Turkey; 13 June 2009.

Plebejus optilete
Dwingelo, the Netherlands; June 1989.
In the Netherlands, this species is restricted
to a few snippets of moreland.

Plebejus orbitulus
Hahnenkam (near Reutte), Austria; July 1989.
Many butterflies are found in wet places in the mountains, foraging for minerals, not water. Often you will find several species closely together in favorite spots.

Plebejus pylaon
Aladag mountains, Turkey; 2 June & 31 May 2008.

Plebejus turcmenicus
Yoncabaşi (Bitlis), Turkey; 9 June 2010.
